What is Smart India Hackathon [SIH]
Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving. This Hackathon has two categories- one is "Software Edition" and the other is "Hardware Edition".

We will look into each section one by one and try to explain every bit involved in the process.
Who can Participate
There are two categories
SIH Junior(Jr) School students from 6th to 12th class will be able to showcase their talent and generate out-of-the-box open innovation ideas. For SIH 2022 Junior, 10 teams will be shortlisted/school by the schools, on the basis of student competitiveness for the hackathon.
SIH Senior(Sr) Regular Students of HEI's pursuing Graduate/Post-Graduate" will be able to showcase their talent and generate out-of-the-box open innovation ideas Higher Education Institutes (HEI) may be allowed to nominate 15 teams/colleges (qualified through an internal hackathon conducted by the institute at their premise).
Criteria for Team Formation
- All team members should be from the same college/school.
- No inter-college/school teams will be allowed. However, college/ institute members from different branches will be encouraged to form a team.
- Each team would mandatorily comprise of 6 members including the team leader and at least one female member.
- As the software edition of the hackathon is a digital product development competition, the majority of the team members must be well versed with programming skills. For the hardware edition, we encourage multi-disciplinary teams which means your team should have a good mix of Mechanical Engineers, Electronic Engineers, Product Designers Programmers, etc.
Why take part in SIH 2022
- During the hackathon you will learn things at exponential speed will get a chance to learn various tech skills and will get a chance to do networking with various participants.
- You will receive one honor which is priceless. Smart India Hackathon is recognized not only in India but also outside of India.
- You might get a chance to be a part of a joint Hackathon that is organized between India and other countries. Recently Indo Singapore Hackathon was closed with a grand success where 20 teams from India had participated.
- Your project may get a chance to get deployed by the concerned ministry/ Private company.
- Also have a chance to win a handsome sum of money which is nearly about 1L.

Prize for Hackathon Winner
- There would be one single winning team for every problem statement posted on the portal.
- The prize money will be given by the collaborating ministry/ industry only if that organization likes the idea of the winning team. However, it is not mandatory to announce only one winning team against each problem statement. If the collaborating ministry/ industry concludes that none of the ideas are up-to-the-mark, they may not announce any winning team at the finale.
- Amount of prize money to be awarded to each winning team is Rs.100000/- per problem statement.
- If there is a tie between two or more teams, the final decision of the prize money distribution will be taken by the problem statement creator only and once the decision is made, it won’t be changed further.
Important Dates and Links
- The last date for team nomination and idea submission by College SPOC on the SIH portal is till 31st March 2022.
